From the Town Crier
For approximately 800-900 years, Saltash has not had an official Town Crier, and so it is a great honour for me to have been elected as Town Crier. This was made possible by a small band of Saltash people, whose tireless fundraising paid for the magnificent Town Crier Regalia- expertly tailored by a local retired Tailor. And so another part of our town’s unique history is brought to life…
The May Fair, too, is an important part of Saltash’s history- so much so, that Royalty have been involved in our “Charter”. Richard II, Edward IV, Henry VIII, Elizabeth 1st, Charles II, George III and Queen Victoria all put their names to a Charter that allowed Saltash to hold two Fayres a year and markets every year.
The Royals have supported our town, and now it’s your chance to support the May Fayre, in Fore Street on Saturday May 2nd.
May I wish thee all
“God’s Blessing, and see you all at Our Town’s May Fayre”.
Saltash Town Crier, Brian Whipp.
